Today we follow one person through one ordinary day. Nothing dramatic happens to her. Nobody hacks anything. She just runs into four small moments that were counting on her not to look twice.
Priya
One ordinary Saturday, start to finish.
What every scam actually asks for
It isn't your money first. It's your hurry.
Asking is free, granting isn't
Why "is this app shady" is the wrong question entirely.
Clever isn't the same as strong
The password trick everybody thinks is smart, measured honestly.
Friendly is a tactic too
How to hear what a nice message is actually asking you for.
Priya's still in bed, thumbing through everything that piled up overnight. Five things, one at a time. Call it before you're told anything — that's the whole point. You don't get to un-see a link after you've tapped it.
Priya's phone light died, so she grabs a free flashlight app. It installs, then immediately asks for five things. Here's the question that matters, and it is not "is this app shady": does each thing it's asking for match the one job it does?
FlashLite
Turns your phone light on and off. That's the whole app.
Camera
"Required to operate the flash"
Flashlight / Torch
"Required to turn the light on"
Contacts
"To help you share FlashLite with friends"
Location (always)
"To improve your local experience"
Microphone
"For voice-activated lighting"
This one's different. Nobody's coming after Priya here — she's just setting up a new account, and reaching for the same password habit she's had since she was eleven. Type in the box. The number underneath is an honest estimate against a machine guessing offline.
Estimated time to crack

Or try one of Priya's
Those last two are the same idea — one is a single word longer. Try them back to back.
Last one. A message lands from somebody Priya doesn't know, and it is perfectly friendly. Don't decide what to do yet. First, read it properly and name exactly what it's reaching for.
